Repairing the Air Conditioner
The Solution
The first task our technician performed was a pressure test to see if the issue was more than just a leak. All the pipes were clear and the air conditioner should be running at its normal speed. Further inspection of the internal unit revealed that a hose had developed a small hole. This was why water was running out of the air conditioning system.
We removed the hose and replaced it with a new hose section. Once the new hose was fitted we pressure tested the air conditioner again. All indicators suggested the system should run at its optimum. We then turned on the A/C and tested it for heating and cooling. There were no leaks and the system was working properly.
What does pressure testing an air conditioner reveal?
Refrigerant Leaks: By pressurising the system with nitrogen or another inert gas, technicians can check for leaks. If the pressure drops, it indicates that there’s a leak somewhere in the system.
System Integrity: Pressure testing helps verify that the system’s components, like the evaporator coil, condenser coil, and connecting lines, are intact and capable of holding the required pressure.
Correct Pressure Levels: It ensures that the system can handle the pressures it’s designed for. Deviations from normal pressure levels can indicate problems such as blockages or issues with the compressor.
Quality of Repairs: After repairs or maintenance, pressure testing confirms that the system has been properly sealed and is functioning correctly.
In essence, pressure testing is a key step in diagnosing and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of an air conditioning system.
