Repair and Service Split System Air Conditioner
The Jesmond Project: The residential tenant of this second floor apartment rang our office informing us that there was no connection from the remote controller to the air conditioning unit.
Project Details
- Client – Residential
- Property Type – Second-floor apartment
- Location – Jesmond, NSW
- Task – The air conditioner had lost the connection from the remote control to the unit.
The Solution
We confirmed a time to repair and service the air conditioner. The outdoor unit that was installed on the patio verandah and one of the wires jackets had worn through and cut one of the wires. This can happen as the wind moves the cables and over time if the cable is against an edge it will eventually wear through. If there is no communication between the remote controller an error can appear on the remote display. The error code on a Carrier air conditioner would be E1.
Repairing the air conditioner communication problem
The first task was to switch off the power to the outdoor unit. Once there was no electricity running into the unit we removed a section of the wire jacket that had worn away. We then stripped the wire back to give a sharp edge. Next, we rejoined the wire. We then turned the power on and tested the air conditioner via the remote control. Immediately the communication from the controller to the a/c unit came on. Finally, we added a new wire jacket section which we sealed.
Air Conditioner Service Jesmond
Our next task was to service and clean the indoor air conditioning unit. We removed the filters and washed them down with water and soap. Dust and other smaller particles build up over time. If the filters are not cleaned your aircon will not perform to its optimum. A sure sign that your air conditioner needs a clean is when your unit makes noises and emits unusual odours.
Why is it important to have clean air conditioner filters?
1. Improved Air Quality- Dust and Allergens: Air conditioner filters trap dust, pollen, pet hair and other airborne particles. A clean filter effectively captures these pollutants, improving indoor air quality and reducing allergy symptoms.
- Mould Prevention: Dirty filters can become a breeding ground for mould and bacteria, which can be circulated throughout your home, leading to health issues.
- Reduced Strain on the System: A clogged filter restricts airflow, forcing the air conditioner to work harder to cool your space. This increased effort leads to higher energy consumption and electricity bills.
- Prolonged Equipment Life: By keeping filters clean, you reduce the strain on the air conditioning unit, helping it operate more efficiently and extending its lifespan.
- Optimal Airflow: Clean filters ensure that air can flow freely through the system, allowing the air conditioner to maintain a consistent temperature throughout your home.
- Reduced Ice Formation: Dirty filters can cause the evaporator coil to freeze, leading to reduced cooling efficiency or even system shutdown.
- Lower Maintenance Costs: Regularly cleaning or replacing filters can prevent more serious issues with the air conditioning system, reducing the need for costly repairs.
- Energy Savings: As the system operates more efficiently with clean filters, you can save on energy bills over time.
- Reduced Energy Consumption: By maintaining clean filters, the air conditioner uses less energy, which can contribute to a lower carbon footprint.
