Clean reusable air conditioner filter and grille
The Glendale Project: The client contacted our office to report that their ducted air conditioner was not delivering the air efficiently. It was six months since we serviced the aircon unit.- Client – Residential
- Property Type – 4 Bedroom brick veneer home
- Location – Glendale, NSW
- System – Ducted air conditioner
- Task – Service and clean ducted air conditioner filters and grilles
The Solution
We set up a time to inspect the ducted A/C unit and if there were no major issues we would also complete the task. Upon inspection, we noted that dust and other fibres had built up on the grille and air filters. This reduced the airflow into the property. This was a relatively easy task and we had all the tools on hand to access and remove all the filters and grilles.
Removing the air conditioner grilles and filters
All the aircon grilles were placed into the property’s ceiling. To remove these, a ladder and power screwdriver are required. Once the cover of the grille was removed we could see a large build-up of dust and microfibers covering the filter. We removed all the grilles and filters for cleaning.
Cleaning the air conditioner grilles and filters
It is not a difficult task to clean an air conditioner grille. The grilles are made of hardened plastic and sturdy. We first vacuum any particles that have gathered on the grille. Then we use a hose and soap to clean the grille.
When you clean an air conditioner filter you should take a lot of care as the filter is not as robust as the grille. First, we vacuum of all the dust. Then we use warm water and soap to clean the filter. We place both the grille and filter in a warm area to dry naturally. If the weather permits drying them is best in the sun.
Why should you keep air conditioner filters and grilles clean?
Keeping air conditioner filters and grilles clean is essential for several reasons:
1. Improved Air Quality:
– Clean filters and grilles help to remove dust, pollen, pet hair and other airborne particles from the air. This is especially important for individuals with allergies or respiratory conditions.
2. Enhanced Efficiency:
– Clean filters and grilles allow for better airflow, which means the air conditioner can cool or heat more efficiently. This reduces the strain on the system and can lower energy consumption, resulting in cost savings on your electricity bills.
3. Extended Lifespan:
– Regular maintenance, including cleaning filters and grilles, can extend the lifespan of your air conditioning unit. When the system doesn’t have to work as hard to push air through dirty filters, it experiences less wear and tear.
4. Prevention of Malfunctions:
– Dirty filters and grilles can lead to a buildup of dirt and debris inside the air conditioner, potentially causing malfunctions or breakdowns. Preventative cleaning can help avoid costly repairs.
5. Optimal Cooling and Heating:
– Clean filters and grilles ensure that your air conditioner can effectively maintain the desired temperature in your home or office. Dirty components can hinder performance, making it harder to stay comfortable.
6. Energy Savings:
– When your air conditioner runs efficiently, it uses less energy. Clean filters and grilles help the system operate at peak efficiency, contributing to lower energy usage and reduced environmental impact.
7. Reduced Allergens and Pollutants:
– Regularly cleaned filters and grilles help reduce the circulation of allergens and pollutants within your home. This can create a healthier indoor environment and improve overall well-being.
By incorporating regular cleaning of your air conditioner’s filters and grilles into your maintenance routine, you can enjoy better air quality, enhanced system performance, and potentially lower energy costs.
