The Solution
We arranged a time for our service technician to visit the house and run some tests to isolate the problem.
The first assignment was to pressure test the Mitusubishi air conditioner. The result was positive and the aircon was functioning properly under the test.
The next step was to explore where all the electrical cabling and wiring were housed. We never installed this air conditioner. This is where we discovered the reasons the a/c was cutting out. The cabling under the house had come away from the joists. The weight of the electrical cable had slowly put stress on the connection. Over time the electrical wire came loose and if the cable moved the circuit was broken causing the air conditioner to turn off. The reason for the cable moving could have been from the wind or a possum.
A number of our air conditioner technicians are certified electricians. So the repair was a simple task. We fixed all the electrical cabling securely to the joists and reconnected the wiring tightly.
Servicing the Air Conditioner
This was an old Mitsubishi air conditioner that had worked very well over the years. The outdoor unit was exposed to all the elements and surface rust was forming from one of the system housing screws at the top. This was from drips of water that were coming from the leaking gutter above. We sealed the leak in the gutter and cleaned away all the rust from the air conditioner.
